Women's Health Office Space

Women’s Health Magazine is a magazine that concentrates on the health, food, nutrition, and the sexuality lifestyle in the lives of women. The goal was to create the best working environment and office for such an innovative magazine. This office isn't just a space where employees go to complete an assigned project, but a space where employees can go and collaborate with each other while also being inspired by the surrounding environment to better serve their clients, as well as their community. This office space reflects employees’ dynamic and productive work environment while exhibiting clean and smooth aesthetic qualities for both open and private work stations.

Classroom

The design of this classroom was inspired by nature. Our goal was to connect students and teachers to the outside environment by creating a calm learning space with tranquil colors inspired by the outside’s natural surroundings. To create a stimulating and modern environment, we provided the space with bold furnishings, presentation televisions, and an engaging layout that would support active learning strategies. Our design includes an open, welcoming area, as well as small, private areas to accommodate all learning experiences, tasks, and projects. This was a project completed by collaborating with fellow students, Christina Evans and Madeline Meier.

Restaurant

The design of this restaurant was inspired by the sesame seed. Sesame seeds are small, black or white, and though simple in nature, provide rich oils and flavors to food. The natural woods, both dark and light, used in the design represent the natural state of the seed while the use of stainless steel represents the oils that the seed can offer. The use of a neutral palette allows customers to enjoy their own personal experience while not being influenced by the numerous feelings colors can sometimes bring.

The furniture is placed to create an open floor plan. The tables set up on the south end of the restaurant provide a private dining atmosphere where customers would be farther away from the larger, central public dining space. The five tables on the west side of the restaurant are made more private by being placed in between two partition walls.

Community Center

The Center for Sustainable Living project was located in Berea, Kentucky. The natural surroundings of the city of Berea provided an inspirational design concept that was perfect for a community building. When combining the rough textures and natural lighting found outdoors, the contrast between natural light and casted shadows added a sense of tranquil movement throughout the space. By contrasting both rough and soft textures, I was able to integrate the indoor and outdoor spaces in a balanced design. Through the inclusion of rustic metal pieces, I tried to embrace the pleasure of being in nature and finding “treasures” of those left by people of the past. By creating a space that embraced nature, people are able to be creative and appreciate the natural history of the site.

Commercial Skyscraper

Utilizing Revit, I was able to design and document a skyscraper by combining architectural elements to develop a space that would be both functional and comfortable for its users.  I chose to create a hotel design because I felt this type of space would need to be designed as both an accessible and inclusive space. With this mindset, it forced me to think in a bigger picture of what makes an environment inviting and enjoyable while also having the possibility of being used to its greatest potential.

Residential Design

The idea behind this project was to document a house design in AutoCAD. After the basic room layout was created, it was then learning the process of constructing each of the drawings that are needed to build a home. The construction documents that were generated included the foundation plan, floor plans, elevations, and roof plan; all of which are essential and dependent on each other.

Extra Small House

Utilizing our manual drafting skills, the goal of this residential design was to create an efficient 500 square foot house plan that met the requirements for our client, as well as creating an open and inviting space.

Accessible Bathroom Renovation

Using an existing restroom on campus, the goal was to provide a design solution for the space so it would then be accessible by ADA standards. By adding room within each of the stalls and increasing the area around each sink, we were able to improve the ease of movement in the space and propose a restroom design that would be more accessible to the public. This was a group project and was completed with the help of Atonna Siemens.
